Tildesley Success!

Four years ago, in 2018, we celebrated 100 years of Ascham’s involvement in the Tildesley Tennis Shield. If there is a name synonymous with independent girls’ school tennis, it’s ‘Tildesley’. For over a century Ascham girls have played the game and brought home the Shield 14 times. It’s a very tough competition with extremely high levels of schoolgirl tennis being played.

This year we were thrilled when the 2022 Ascham Tildesley Team placed 5th overall at the competition. This is a fantastic achievement for all team members who played incredible tennis throughout the competition and certainly contributed to this excellent result.

Last weekend at Pennant Hills Park, Ascham was represented by 16 players: eight singles players and four doubles pairs. Our Tennis Captain, Year 12 student Jemima Duchen, got the team off to a great start when she won her first game. This spurred the other singles players on, with all eight players winning their first-round matches. A perfect start to the tournament!

There were outstanding Singles and Doubles results for us over the two days of competition. The team camaraderie was fantastic, with all players coming together and supporting each other on and off the court.

Congratulations to all our players and to the exceptional Ascham Tennis coaches, comprising Mr Steve Gleeson, Mrs Kirrily Scarfone, Mr Justin Mock and Mr Ken Richardson, for their work in inspiring and driving our students to play their best tennis.
