Supporting Afghan Refugees

Ascham students foster a culture of giving here at the School and are fantastic at driving causes that they are passionate about.

Aligning with the commencement of the Football World Cup in Qatar, our new 2023 student Co-Head of Sport, Daniella, organised a Boots and Ball collection to help Afghan refugees play at the Street Football World Cup Tournament at Meadowbank Park Sports Fields on Sunday 20 November. She also organised an Ascham team to participate. Here’s what Daniella had to say about this fantastic day of football…

The Street Football World Cup at Meadowbank was a day of inclusion and diversity, in which anyone from any background could enjoy the game of football, in light of the FIFA World Cup and the human rights issues surrounding it. The event captured the essence of what football should be about: a sport of inclusivity and respect.

Ascham’s generous donations of football boots and balls were met with much gratitude, allowing those less fortunate, such as the Afghan refugee team, to play. A team of Ascham girls also participated in the event, which included Sophia, Olivia, Anjali, Jessica and myself. It was a fun day for everyone, and we all enjoyed participating in such a great event.
