The Hillingdon Guruwara Playground, always a hub of joy, reached new heights of excitement when our students returned to School for Term 3. They were thrilled to discover the first of two murals by Gadigal artist Shane Youngberry, honouring the Gadigal Land on which our School is built. This mural, a stunning fusion of vibrant colours and intricate designs, pays homage to the brushtail possum after which the playground was named.
Last term, students from Prep to Year 2 had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Shane. Their involvement in the design process fostered a deeper understanding of First Nations art and culture. As they explored the mural’s various elements, it was evident that Shane’s dedication to involving the students had not only enriched their learning but also instilled a profound sense of pride and connection to the artwork they helped create.
With the first mural now complete, we look forward to watching Shane create the second mural in the playground.
