Lynn Catches Mayor’s Award

This year, 34 of our Fiona students (Years 3 to 6) created an array of wonderful artworks for this year’s Waverley Youth Art Prize in response to the theme ‘Mysteries of the Deep’. Our young artists made ceramic sculptures, crochet blobfish, installations made from recycled materials, drawings, paintings and digital illustrations of undersea worlds and menacing sea creatures.

On opening night, Thursday 6 June, it was announced that Lynn in Year 4 was the winner of the Mayor’s Award for her painting ‘The Anglerfish’. Congratulations, Lynn!

Upon hearing of her success, Lynn wrote:

“I used watercolour to paint this small anglerfish, and it must have caught the Mayor’s attention! It symbolises hope and how the anglerfish uses its light to guide its way in the deep, mysterious sea. Hope is always there as long as you have a light.”

All of the entries from our students will be exhibited in the Waverley Library at Bondi Junction until 5 July. We warmly congratulate all our wonderful Ascham artists!
