HSC Art Show Shines

On 23 August, the 2022 HSC Art Show opened to the Ascham community. This year’s exhibition included the work of 36 talented students in a range of media areas, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photomedia and film.

The exceptional work the girls created represents a meaningful relationship between themselves and their teachers and is the product of numerous terms of experimentation, refinement, and pure sheer hard work.

Special thanks to Ms Harrie Fasher, an artist and Ascham Old Girl, for delivering an inspired opening address (pictured above with Year 12 student Grace). She spoke of the value that art can bring to our world and encouraged our students to be brave and unafraid. Harrie is an award-winning artist and is currently working on a very special sculpture that will take pride of place at the heart of the Ascham campus. Our magnificent former fig tree will be honoured in perpetuity as a new large-scale work by Harrie that will be installed on the façade of the Margaret Bailey Building when it is completed over the coming year.

Staff of the Visual Arts Department are thanked for their outstanding work in guiding the Year 12 students through the process of creating their HSC Bodies of Work. The staff members’ knowledge, expertise and determination to see each student do their very best has resulted in a variety of materially and conceptually resolved artworks.

Well done to all of our students—we wish you well for your HSC and the years beyond.
