In August, 60 Old Girls aged 80+ gathered for a delicious high tea in the Packer Theatre Foyer. Due to the success of last year’s inaugural Goldies event, the venue was changed from the Glenrock Drawing Room to accommodate the growing numbers. The event was honoured by the presence of Barbara Crouch (Showers 1948), aged 92, accompanied by her daughter and Ascham teacher Catherine Crawford (Crouch 1974). The Goldies travelled from near and far, including New Zealand, Queensland and rural NSW.
This year, the Year 6 Prefects introduced a new initiative: requesting pen pals. The Goldies enthusiastically embraced this, and now they correspond regularly, sharing history and memories of their time at Ascham. It’s a beautiful reminder of shared experiences.
The musical performances by Senior students were beautifully executed, impressing the audience with their skill and confidence. As has become a delightful tradition, the day concluded with the Hillingdon girls presenting the special guests with a golden daffodil. We look forward to welcoming all alumni over 80 years of age next year to this wonderful event.
