Ascham has become the first school in Australasia to build the sustainability feature ‘thermal break’ into the walls of our new buildings in the Fiona Redevelopment Project.
This week, an exciting site tour took place on campus, as staff and students inspected the thermal break. This German-made technology is used extensively in Europe for its effectiveness in extreme climates. With climate change leading to more extreme weather in Australia, thermal breaks will be become more widely used in this country in the coming years.
This innovative insulating structure, made of foam and steel, is built between walls to prevent heat and cold transfer, enhancing our building’s energy efficiency.
Dane from construction company Rohrig and Nick from architects BVN presented to staff, SRC students and the Year 6 Sustainability Prefects about the significant sustainability features of our Fiona Redevelopment Project.
Our students asked insightful questions about the thermal break and the overall Fiona Redevelopment Project, showcasing their keen interest in how we are embedding sustainable features across our campus.
Ascham is proud to be the first school in Australasia to use advanced insulating technology, as we live our strategic commitment of ‘Sustaining Our Future’.
