SchoolAid is a crowdfunding platform for children who want to raise funds for charities and make a difference in the world. In the words of SchoolAid, the organisation ‘aims to reduce the incidence of youth anxiety, depression and suicide by focusing on philanthropy, kindness and gratitude.’
At Ascham each year, we have Junior School students who are part of the SchoolAid Kids Ambassador Team. This year, two Year 5 students, Harper and Collins are our ambassadors and recently attended the Google offices in Sydney for their meeting. Here they report on their day…
‘On 12 June we enjoyed the most incredible privilege as SchoolAid Kids Ambassador Team (KAT) representatives. We got to attend the Google Sydney offices for our Term 2 KAT meeting.
In Google’s modern and trendy surrounds, we met with fellow representatives from other Sydney schools for our termly Board meeting to discuss our campaign progress and achievements. We were proud to share with the group the success of our Silver Coin Drive in Term 1 in which we raised over $2,300 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with thanks to the incredible generosity of our Ascham community.
Excitingly, we also celebrated the SchoolAid KAT’s 10th anniversary with a delicious cake. Following the meeting, we were fortunate to be guided on a tour of the offices and got to experience the different workspaces such as the games room and the micro-kitchens which were jam packed full of goodies.
Next week, at our Monday Assembly, we will announce a House Lolly Guessing Competition which continues our campaign to support JDRF. Students will be invited to guess the number of lollies in the jar assigned to their House. Guesses will be $2 each or 3 for $5 and the winning guess from each House will each be rewarded with the greatly prized lolly jar. As a bonus, the House which raises the greatest amount of money will also receive a large sum of House Points to contribute to their Term 2 points tally. We look forward to a week of great estimation and support for our JDRF campaign.’
Congratulations Harper and Collins on all your incredible work raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation!
