After extensive construction as part of Ascham’s Blueprint, the new playground for our Fiona students (Years 3–6) reopened at the start of Term 4. Where bulldozers and hard hats once dominated the scene, laughter and fun have returned!
Two innovative outdoor pods now offer inviting spaces for gathering, sparking imagination and fostering creativity during recess and lunch, while also providing teachers with new opportunities for outdoor learning activities such as shared reading and hands-on science lessons. Adding to the playground’s appeal, a softfall running track encourages friendly races, and dedicated netball areas with hoops allow students to practise shooting goals and improve their ball skills.
The reopening of the playground equipment has sparked tremendous joy, with our students eagerly taking turns on the flying fox, swings, climbing apparatus, slides and the spider’s web. One of the playground’s most treasured spaces continues to be the Fiona lawn, where our students are revelling in the simple pleasure of open-space play. This generous green expanse has once again become a canvas for endless activities.
When the final part of the Fiona redevelopment project is completed and opened in 2026, our students will gain access to an even more expansive playground area featuring a large all-weather covered space. This addition means outdoor enjoyment can continue regardless of weather conditions, ensuring that neither drizzle nor downpour will dampen our students’ irrepressible spirit of play.
As we watch our students explore, compete, collaborate and simply play, it brings us all great joy to see the playground truly become what we envisioned: a dynamic space where learning extends beyond the classroom and great memories are made.
