A Cherished Gathering
August was a very busy month, and we welcomed back 60 of our treasured Old Girls for the third annual Goldies Afternoon Tea—a beautiful celebration of friendship and community. This much-anticipated event brings together our special Goldies, aged 80 and above, many of whom travel from near and far to reconnect with lifelong friends and revisit cherished memories of their time at Ascham.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, musical performances, and meaningful conversations between our Fiona students and the Goldies. The Year 6 Community Ambassadors visited each table, equipped with thoughtful questions, the girls asked our guests what sports they played at School, what their favourite childhood memories were, and even if they had nicknames! It was beautiful to witness the genuine engagement between generations—our students were captivated by stories from decades past and amazed by the enduring friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
The musical item performed by our Years 7 and 8 students, Give Remix – Saxophone Quartet by Joe Hisaishi, stunned the Goldies; they were impressed by how beautifully the girls played and how confident they were with their instruments. As has become tradition, Hillingdon students gave each Goldie a small bouquet of yellow daffodils, a beautiful gesture which is always so warmly received.
A special tribute was paid to our most senior Goldie, Lloyd Poulton (98), who is one of the few boys to have attended Ascham in the 1930s, and to Camilla Swan (Hetherington 1957), who flew in from the Sunshine Coast accompanied by her two granddaughters.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your presence made the day truly special and reinforced the deep bonds that continue to connect our Ascham community across generations.
