Ascham’s heart and soul shone brightly in the Packer Theatre on Friday 14 February, for our inaugural Generations Assembly.
The theatre was filled with 264 current Ascham students, each with a direct lineage to Ascham through their mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and even great-great-grandmothers. Accompanying them were their mothers and grandmothers, who could be in attendance. And for those who could not be with us, we welcomed other family members representing them. The event was a true testament to the enduring legacy of Ascham.
The Assembly was steeped in tradition, featuring heartfelt speeches from Mr Powell, Head of School and Patron of the AOGU, as well as Co-Presidents Emma Martin (Tregoning 1997) and Yianoula Henderson (Morris 1997). They spoke passionately about the power of belonging and the global reach of our Old Girls network.
Special thanks to our archivist Ms Margeruite Gillezeau who spent hours sourcing photographs of family members through the decades. Attached is a selection of beautiful images that made up the slideshow.
The String Quartet, comprised of Senior School musicians, captivated the audience with a beautiful rendition of Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gardel, followed by the AOGU Songbirds who performed the Ascham School Medley. Laughter and chatter filled the theatre when the Old Girls heard the nostalgic lyrics of I Will Never Marry. The Assembly concluded with full audience participation of the Ascham School Song.
Students received their Generations with Heart and Soul pin to wear proudly on their blazers, and took photos with family members and friends. The Packer Theatre Foyer was full of extended family members enjoying the morning tea served afterwards.
This was a day of celebration and connection that underscores the importance of our alumni community.
