Our Junior School Students from Years 3 to 6 have embraced their new vegetable garden with boundless enthusiasm. Carrot, lettuce and swiss chard seeds have been planted by the Year 4 Eco Warriors. Here, Year 6 STEAM Prefect, Matilda Powell describes the garden initiative and shares her hopes for fresh vegetables in a few months time!
‘The Fiona Vegetable Garden contains a Subpod, which is a compost device that supports the growth of fruit and veggies, a worm farm and a composter! With the help of Miss Tamplin, the girls showed collaboration as they worked together to dig the holes, sow and water the seeds! The seeds that they planted included carrots, lettuce and swiss chard.
The girls showed responsibility and community as they worked together to make rules for the Subpod so that everyone is careful around it and that it becomes a flourishing garden. At the end of this process, all of our Eco Warriors were very excited to have established the garden after Remote Learning had stopped them from doing it last year. In 2 months, we hope that we will be able to have some delicious fresh veggies to munch on!’
