A Celebration of Connection and Possibility
On 22 May, Ascham hosted its biennial Careers Showcase, which is always a standout event. This year 46 AOGs volunteered their time to inspire our Years 10 and 11 students with their career journeys since leaving school. The evening format is based on a corporate-style conference, complete with personalised lanyards, timed sessions in industry-focused rooms, and student facilitators who lead each conversation. There were 11 industry categories, including Entrepreneurs, Technology and Innovation, Medicine, Media and Communications, Law and Legal, and more, in which our alumni generously shared their time, energy and wisdom.
This event is a powerful reminder that careers are rarely linear. Many AOGs spoke about their zig-zag paths, offering students a refreshing and realistic view of what’s possible. The Careers Showcase gives our students the chance to ask thoughtful questions, explore diverse industries, and connect with role models who reflect the spirit of curiosity and resilience.
Each session was professionally facilitated by our Year 12 students, whose poise and confidence were truly impressive. Afterwards, the hospitality continued upstairs in the Margaret Bailey Building with bubbles and chicken sandwiches for the AOGs—a wonderful networking opportunity for our young alumni.
Thank you to all our Ascham Old Girls who generously contributed their time and words of wisdom for our students. It’s wonderful to see the culture of giving back strong within the community. Special mention to Gillian Sloan, Ascham’s Tertiary Education and Careers Adviser, whose dedicated coordination ensures this event continues to thrive.
