Indigo for Premier!

Ever wondered what it would be like to be Premier of NSW? Year 11 Ascham student Indigo Lee-Wilson has been heavily involved in Youth Parliament and was elected the NSW Youth Premier in a recent virtual camp.

‘Due to COVID, our Youth Parliament camp was made virtual but I still learnt a lot and made some great friends,’ said Indigo this week of her experience. ‘Youth Parliament is unique, not only in the way it teaches us the way parliament works, but it brings in young people from all over the State to create a group that is diverse and who have different experiences that help us truly represent NSW. It’s really inspirational to have a wide variety of people and opinions because it really helps us address the nuances of every single issue, which is so important because we often see people excluded from political conversations and decisions.’

Indigo and her parliament peers also had the opportunity to meet politicians including Jihad Dib, Rose Jackson and Jonathan O’Dea.

As an articulate and passionate speaker, Indigo was featured in The Daily Telegraph, on ABC Radio, in the National Tribune and Mirage News.

‘I would encourage Ascham girls to become involved in Youth Parliament,’ said Indigo. ‘It is a way to make a difference and gain real world experience of our government and its functions,’ she said.

We are proud of Indigo and her political prowess!
