Street Libraries on the Playground!

It’s no secret that we love to read at Ascham, and we regularly encourage our students to read for pleasure. The School has three libraries full to the brim with books, books, books!

Recently, the Ascham Parents’ Association generously donated three street libraries that have been installed in the Hillingdon (Prep – Year 2), Fiona (Years 3-6) and Senior School playgrounds. Our Year 7 boarders decorated each library in Term 1 and our Maintenance team was busy over the Easter break installing them.

Take a book – leave a book. Street libraries encourage the joy and discovery of new novels, the habit of reading and also the sharing and recycling of literature. Students are encouraged to bring in novels from home and swap them in the street library in their area of the school. We encourage parents of our younger students to be involved in the selection of the novels to be left and swapped.

The joy of reading truly does last a lifetime.
