Hillingdon Book Week

What a wonderful buzz we had around Hillingdon (Prep to Year 2) last Thursday for our Book Week dress-up day. There were Dorothys and Matildas, Nancys and Billies, Harrys and Hermiones, and a host of other marvellous and magical characters and creatures. We all enjoyed watching the parades from each class during our virtual assembly and seeing the big smiles on everyone’s faces.

The Children’s Book Council announced their winning books for 2020 with My Friend Fred by Frances Watts and A. Yi named the winner in the Early Childhood Picture Book category. The New Illustrator award went to Jasmine Seymour for Baby Business, a beautiful insight into the welcoming ceremony for an Indigenous baby.

Every Hillingdon girl took part in the Book Week theme of Curious Creatures, Wild Minds by sharing something they are curious about. The responses were as varied and wonderful as the girls themselves…

How will people get around in the future?
Dingoes
Are there are animals in space?
Cave crickets
How do cats play?
Why do bugs have spots?
Volcanoes
How minds are created?

Curiosity is the first step to learning so it is wonderful to see those curious minds at work!

Happy reading!
