Simone awarded Gold Duke of Ed
Warm congratulations to our Year 12 student Simone Fan on being presented her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award by the Governor of NSW.
Simone’s hard work and dedication over the past year in completing her Gold Award paid off when she was presented with the honour by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC. This is an achievement that less than 48% of participants who start their Gold DoE challenge complete. To obtain such a high honour, a participant must complete a minimum of 12 months of physical recreation, minimum of 12 months for skills, minimum 12 months worth of service, an adventurous journey for 4 days and 3 nights, and an additional residential project.
Simone dedicated a weekly regime of swimming and running for her sport component, volunteered with the children at the PCYC Balmain after-school care and holiday program, mastered the piano, completing her Grade 8 AMEB level exam as her skill, and hiked and camped in various NSW locations for her adventurous journey. She went on the Oxford Royale Academy in the UK for her residential project, in which she met high school students from all over the world, broadening her horizons even further.
We commend Simone for the many hours she has committed to the program and for her amazing accomplishment. She has no doubt gained many skills on her Duke of Edinburgh journey.
