Ascham Sailing wins Interdominion Championships

To finish off the 2018–19 season, our Ascham Sailing team won the Interdominion Championships female division for the first time, after also winning the State and National female titles.

During the winter holidays, seven Ascham sailors represented our school, as well as Australia, at the Interdominion Secondary Schools Teams Racing Championships in Hobart. The Ascham sailors were part of a five-school team that competed against the New Zealand school teams.

The six-day regatta had some of the toughest sailing conditions, with extreme variability in both wind angle and speed; with wind shifting up to 180 degrees during racing, making for incredibly difficult decision-making.

All sailors competed in an open round robin series, where schools raced each other a number of times to determine the divisional and overall champions.

Australia claimed all three titles and won the national trophy over New Zealand!

The Ascham team showed great resilience, working together and maintaining their first place in the division for the entirety of the regatta.

What a way to end the Sailing season!
