Lauren shines on stage

At only 13 years of age, Ascham student Lauren Young has already had an incredible dancing career, regularly appearing on stage and screen.

Between February and May, Lauren competed in the Asian Grand Prix International Ballet Competition (AGP). The AGP International Ballet Competition is an annual competition for ballet students aged 8–19. Regional competitions were held in Taipei, Auckland, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul, Jakarta, Manila, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur. The Sydney regional has been running for two years and this year was held on 4 and 5 May at University of NSW and the NIDA dance studios with 143 dancers from all over Australia competing. Lauren placed 10th in the Junior A section (13–14 years) which meant she qualified for the finals in Hong Kong that run from 12–17 August.

Attending the finals will be an exciting experience for Lauren where she will be tutored and assessed by international dance experts and teachers as well as competing against other students on an international level. The competition aims to provide opportunities for young dancers to demonstrate their talents, explore their potentials, and learn from international dance experts as well as their peers. Outstanding dancers receive awards and scholarships from renowned ballet schools to further their education and professional career.

Congratulations and good luck, Lauren!
