Willow commended in Sculpture Prize

Responding to the theme ‘Threatened Species in Woollahra’, Ascham Junior School students worked with abundant enthusiasm and determination over the past two months to produce creative and ecologically sound works for the Woollahra Environmental Sculpture Prize for Schools. Our girls employed an inventive use of recycled materials to construct their sculptures and comment on endangered species in our local area.

On Monday 29 October, Woollahra Council announced the prize winners at Council Chambers. Year 5 Ascham girl Willow Maison was awarded a Highly Commended for her work Sunset Bat (pictured).  Several more Years 3 to 6 Ascham students were named in the group of finalists.

The Mayor of Woollahra, Mr Peter Cavanagh, made special mention of the quality and significant number of entries received from Ascham. We congratulate all entrants from our school and from other schools for their thoughtful and skillful works that reflect the students’ understanding of ecological issues affecting our area.
