Ascham at UNSW GERRIC Gifted STEAM Conference

On 15 June, six Fiona students presented at the UNSW GERRIC Gifted STEAM Conference. Harper Marsden-Uren, Janine Southwell, Maya Murphy, Kaja Damodaran, Sofia Malik and Eva Jacobson were invited to share their experiences and ideas regarding their participation in STEAM activities at Ascham.

Prior to their presentation, the girls were fortunate to attend a keynote speech by Dr Rebecca Johnson, the first female Director of Science at the Australian Museum Research Institute and self-titled Forensic Wildlife Scientist. Her speech was very interesting as she provided information about STEAM education initiatives and the great forensic work that occurs at the Australian Museum.

Alongside teachers Miss Thomas and Mrs Baddams, the girls then presented to an audience of primary and secondary teachers interested in gifted education and the provision of STEAM learning opportunities.

Presenting skillfully and with great confidence, the girls were outstanding representatives of Ascham. The experience provided an excellent opportunity for each of the girls to share their knowledge and skills.
