Annabel wins regional final of Lions Youth of the Year

We’re delighted for Year 12 student Annabel Khun who won the regional final of Lions Youth of the Year competition last week. Here, Annabel reports on the comp and what lies ahead.

‘On Tuesday 6 March I attended the second round of competition (regional final) of the Lions Youth of the Year. There were students representing schools including Monte, Shore, Ascham and Abbotsleigh. The format was the same as the first round, with a prepared five-minute speech and two two-minute impromptu questions.

We had to give on-the-spot answers to these questions:

1. What is your opinion of party politics in Australia? and
2. What is a defining incident in your life?

The prepared speeches were very interesting, covering topics of gender pay gaps, human rights, Indigenous culture and politics.

I was fortunate to win the competition and now I proceed onto the next round which is the district final.’

Well done to Annabel and her Speech and Drama Department teachers here at Ascham. Good luck in the district final, Annabel!
