Centre for the Sciences official opening

On Saturday 20 August, we officially opened Ascham’s new Centre for the Sciences and celebrated 130 years of our school.

It was wonderful to see so many members of the Ascham community here on 20 August touring our new science laboratories. Parents, girls and their siblings, past parents, Old Girls, donors, staff and past staff all experienced the colours and wonders of science in our new facilities. We were very fortunate to have Professor Mary O’Kane AC officially open the building (with a very large, red helium balloon that defied gravity in a matter of moments!).

The accompanying celebration afterwards in the Packer Theatre was a very special event — 300 Ascham choristers mesmerically sang the commemorative composition, Gravitational Waves, by Paul Jarman and Bonnie Nilsson, as well as our Ascham Founder’s Day composition, And We Seek.

The day was truly a wonderful opportunity for the whole of our community to reflect on 130 years of Ascham.
