Fiona Music Camp and Concert
The annual Fiona Music Camp and the showcase Concert that follows are always a musical treat for our girls and their parents.
This year, Camp was held 9–10 June 2016 at The Collaroy Conference Centre. The weather was beautiful and girls enjoyed the sunshine and the vast expanse of grass available between rehearsals. A rigorous rehearsal schedule kept Fiona musicians very busy over the course of the Camp and the standard of performances on the last day reflected the value of two days of intensive music-making. Back at Ascham a week later, the fruits of the girls’ labour were evident at the annual Fiona Music Camp Concert. Parents, grandparents, friends and staff were delighted by the many outstanding performances. The newly formed Fiona Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mr Richard Charlton, gave a stellar performance of Selections from Peer Gynt Suite, which left the audience wondering if it was truly a primary school concert they were attending. A varied program included performances from Larks, Nightingales, Corelli Strings Ensemble, Vivaldi Strings Ensemble, Kreisler Ensemble, Concert Band, Wind Symphony, the Ascham Grammar Strings Orchestra and the Fiona Guitar Ensemble. The Combined Fiona Bands took up most of the stage and gave a rousing performance of Dr Boo, which ensured that the audience stayed awake throughout the program! Well done to all the staff and all the girls on yet another wonderful Camp and Concert.
