Ascham Old Girls receive top honours at Sydney Film Festival

Ascham congratulates Sheila Jayadev (1998) and Sascha Ettinger-Epstein (1995) on their achievements at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.

Sheila wrote and directed Spice Sisters, which won the Event Cinemas Australian Short Screenplay Award. According to the Sydney Film Festival website, Spice Sisters depicts ‘a former Bollywood star [who] is bored and restless with her life. When a popular reality cooking show announces a call for contestants, she decides it’s now or never to make a change.’

Sascha received a special mention in the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Australian Documentary for her documentary Destination Arnold, which followed two Indigenous women on their journey to an amateur bodybuilding competition.

Nearly 300 films were shown at this year’s Festival, with five official Awards being given as part of the official competition.
