Duntrim House—Ascham’s beautiful new boarding facility
At the beginning of Term 2 2016, we unveiled Duntrim House, a brand new boarding house facility, providing accommodation for more than 60 boarders.
This ambitious building project—the largest undertaken in the School’s history—has seen the refurbishment of the historic property Duntrim, which has been transformed into new bedrooms, flexible learning spaces, and cosy common areas. Boarding is truly at the heart of Ascham, and provides an environment in which our girls become confident learners, independent thinkers and caring individuals. In a safe, comfortable, supportive and nurturing space, our girls generate learning experiences that last a lifetime. The development of Duntrim has enhanced Ascham’s boarding program. The school’s Year 9 Residential Program, which encourages all girls to experience boarding for a minimum of one term, is essential in the development of the whole girl, teaching girls that despite individual differences, we are all part of a wider humanity.
The Head of School at Ascham Mr Andrew Powell said,
The restoration of Duntrim House, our new home for boarding, now offers an exceptional place of learning and living, and will help to build on the strong sense of community and connectedness at Ascham. What is also exciting about the Duntrim project is that it has unlocked and opened up the campus, allowing us to revitalise and enhance many of our current facilities. Duntrim really has been a transformational project for our beautiful school.
