Integration of New Girls

Orientation
Ascham places great emphasis on helping all new students settle into the school quickly and happily.  Before school begins, new parents and girls have many opportunities to be welcomed, to learn school procedures and to meet teachers and other students.  A member of the New Girl’s Committee contacts each girl before she arrives and each girl is allocated an “Ascham sister” from her school house who is a helpful and friendly contact for any query or concern she may have.

Peer support initiatives between younger and older girls continue to develop at the school, to enhance the school community spirit and goodwill. The school provides a caring, hospitable, inclusive environment: everyone is valued and appreciated.

Academic transition for new students
For new students entering Ascham, the Dalton Plan is uniquely placed to smooth the academic transition through the personal attention provided in studies. This enables teachers to help new students cover unfamiliar material.

Girls enjoy the way the Dalton Plan allows them to design their whole week. They choose which studies they need to attend to complete their week’s work on time. By planning their time, girls can complete homework commitments and still participate fully in other extra-curricular activities.
