Old Girls' Union

One hundred and twenty-four years of educating girls at Ascham has led to an extensive Old Girls’ network.  Each year, the alumnae come together for reunions, renewing and enjoying life-long friendships.  Old Girls are important to today’s students and to the school community. They have a history and tradition long valued by the school.

The Ascham Old Girls’ Union (AOGU) was founded in 1899 by a handful of former students of Headmistress and founder, Miss Marie Wallis.  It now has a membership of over 4,000 past students. Old Girls live in all corners of the world and have achieved success in many careers and interests.

The AOGU encourages involvement of all past students in the Ascham community and helps alumnae remain in contact with their classmates. Class reunions, country reunions, lunches, the annual dinner, golf, tennis and bridge days, film nights and other regular functions provide opportunities for social gatherings and get-togethers.

The AOGU also funds bursaries for the daughters and granddaughters of past students. The recipients of bursaries are means-tested and reviewed annually, and also carry an obligation to uphold the ideals and values of Ascham. Information about these bursaries is available from the Ascham Registrar’s office.
(Telephone: 8356 7034).

Donations from the AOGU are regularly made to school projects. In recent years, donations have included the new front gates on New South Head Road and a rowing eight boat.  Members of the AOGU also assist the school in its careers program.  An Old Girls’ newsletter is published three times a year.  Old Girls also receive a number of other school publications to enable them to keep in touch with the Ascham community and with the school’s development.

The AOGU has an office at the school and the AOGU can be contacted through the school’s switchboard.  Any past student who is not a member of the AOGU and would like to join can do so by downloading the AOGU Membership Application and sending a completed form to the AOGU. Past students who have changed address should also contact the Old Girl Liaison Officer, Michelle Green.
