Academic excellence
The school is named after Roger Ascham, a distinguished tutor to Queen Elizabeth I. Ascham School provides an intellectual standard which proudly mirrors both Roger Ascham’s achievements and the leadership strengths of Queen Elizabeth I. The school’s philosophy is to focus on the development of a solid foundation of skills and to educate every girl to fulfil her academic potential.
In senior years, Ascham uses a modified version of the Dalton Plan of education which is central to the school’s objective to develop organised, independent, self motivated, life-long learners.
Extracurricular balance
In addition to a thorough grounding in core academic subjects, including languages, music, art and drama, Ascham provides a balance of extracurricular activities in sport, debating and performance. The school offers many opportunities to be involved in a wide range of interest clubs, charities and community groups. There are also many leadership opportunities throughout the school.
Ascham is independent of any religious affiliation and provides no formal religious instruction. Girls are taught about the major world religions, have a thorough grounding in ethics and moral studies, and an understanding of their rich and diverse cultural, intellectual and literary heritage. They are encouraged to develop a strong sense of social justice, fairness and mutual respect both within the school community and as responsible citizens in the wider communities, both local and international.
The school’s central goal is to provide a foundation of skills, so that each Ascham student has, in addition to her academic achievement, the confidence, compassion and commitment to contribute to society throughout her life. |
