Boarding Community

New girl orientation
The school is very aware of the need to help new boarders settle in as quickly as possible.  Before each new boarder begins, she is assigned a boarder buddy from a senior year to help smooth the transition and to be a friendly big sister to answer any query or alleviate any concern.

The boarding school has an elected Year 12 Head and Secretary and a council of six student members. These senior girls provide support and leadership to their fellow boarders, arrange rosters and social events during the year, and liaise with the boarding staff or Headmistress on any suggestions or issues.

Day girl interaction
As well as daily interaction in the classroom, boarders and day girls have many opportunities to mix and form friendships in sporting teams, musical groups, drama groups, clubs and other extra-curricular activities. Boarders are also combined with day girls in school houses for inter-house sports and music festival competitions, which further extends friendships.

If they wish, boarders may have a cut lunch during the week, so that they can eat in the grounds with the day girls. As long as they have their parents’ permission, boarders may also have leave with day girls’ families after school, for dinner or over the weekend.

Boarding parent community
Girls are not the only ones who form lifelong friendships during their Ascham years. Through their association with the school, parents also develop an extensive network of friends.  The school’s Boarding Parent Committee is a group of parents who contribute to the enhancement of the boarding community.  They organise annual social gatherings and are a committee through which any concerns or suggestions from the boarding school can be raised.
