One of the greatest attractions of Ascham’s city location is the easy access to the many events and activities Sydney has to offer. Each weekend, boarding staff arrange an outing or activity for those boarders not going out on leave. Visits to the theatre and cinema, museums, galleries, concerts, opera, art and craft, ice-skating, bike riding, beach trips, bush walking, shopping trips, ferry rides and picnics are just some of the diverse activities offered.
Most boarders play sport on Saturday mornings in the sporting competitions in which the school participates. If a boarder’s parents are not visiting, travel to and from sporting commitments is arranged with fellow team members or day-girl parents. Many extended friendships are formed on the various playing fields, and the contribution which boarders make to Ascham sports teams has always been admired and appreciated.
Television is allowed at set times during the week and on the weekend. On Sundays, the library is open all day, and on Sunday evenings a prep time is scheduled for girls to complete work.
Over a weekend there is also plenty of time allocated for girls to enjoy activities or to rest. Parents can feel secure that their daughters will have a balanced weekend of activities, recreation and rest, time for academic work and time to enjoy the company of their friends, both boarders and day girls.
Leave entitlements
As long as sport and work commitments are met, leave appropriate to each year level allows the girls to make arrangements for shopping, day outings and overnight stays. Leave is organised in advance and all details must be confirmed with parents. Special leave requests will always be considered.
Travel arrangements
At the beginning and end of each term, the NSW government provides free train/bus travel for boarding students between their school and home. Students travelling overseas or by plane are escorted to the airport.
