The Boarding Community

Our boarders are the heart of the school. The school is their home as well at the focus of their learning. This creates a wonderful sense of community for the boarders and for every girl in the school.

To help our boarders settle into school life easily, the City Country Family Program aims to build a social link between our daygirls and boarders, and their parents. A daygirl’s family invites a boarder to their home for a BBQ or an outing once a term and the boarder’s family reciprocates with an invitation to the country during the year. Strong friendships result and good ties between the boarders and the daygirls.

We attend the regular Boarding Expos held every year at Dubbo and other country locations such as Tamworth, Narrabri, Wagga Wagga and Griffith. While the Expos are a great opportunity for prospective families to meet our staff, they also provide us with the chance to say hello and catch up with our current families.

There is a wide range of events during the year to which parents are warmly invited. These include regular information nights, Ascham Parents’ Association drinks and dinners, the annual Boarders’ Parents Drinks party, plays, concerts, and the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. One of the biggest events of the year is the APA annual Tennis Day. There are parent/daughter tennis matches all over Sydney culminating in a final played at school. But the day is also a wonderful family occasion with a BBQ, many different stalls and Side-Show Alley for the younger children. Every year, the boarders’ parents run a stall with produce and goods from the country which is always one of the most popular stalls for the entire school community.
