Students have many opportunities to participate in drama and theatre, both onstage and backstage. Professional directors and designers along with our teaching staff contribute to the creative team.
Junior (Years 7-9) and senior (Years 10-12) productions are biennial, and may be performed with neighbouring boys’ schools such as Cranbrook and Sydney Grammar. The program is varied and has included Top Girls, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Hating Alison Ashley, The Real Inspector Hound, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. The musicals, such as Anything Goes, Cabaret and Into the Woods are exciting biennial events.
Students from Years 7 to 12 have many opportunities to participate in drama and theatre, both onstage and backstage of the 700 seat Packer Theatre that features a revolving stage. Professional directors and designers along with our teaching staff contribute to the creative team.
Our girls audition for roles at boys’ schools, acting in many productions such as Sydney Grammar’s Spamalot, The Producers and Cosi and Cranbrook’s The Boyfriend, The Browning Version, Property of the Clan and Hamlet.
Lunch time and after school clubs are offered for improvisation and film making.
Smaller performances, such as the annual Year 11 student production are presented in the Drama Studio. These performances, which have included The Actor’s Nightmare, The Virtuous Burglar and The Bald Prima Donna, provide a wonderful opportunity for students to produce one act plays under the guidance of their Drama teachers and technical staff.
Students in Year 11 are also able to be part of the annual Year 11 play. In 2016, the inaugural play was Jenny Kemp's, The Black Sequin Dress. Year 10 students also devise and perform a cabaret show as part of their studies in the theatrical style of Weimar cabaret.
