Girls interested in Social Justice issues meet regularly to discuss creative and engaging ways to address social issues and problems such as social inequality, discrimination and tolerance, indigenous affairs, racism, the refugee issue and fair trade.
The Social Justice Committee endeavours to draw the attention of the wider school community to specific topical global events as they occur. They plan assemblies to mark declared commemorative days such World Refugee Day, Harmony Day and International Women’s Day.
Guests speakers talk to the girls on topics related to Social Justice. Past speakers have included Yassmin Abdel-Magied from Youth Without Borders and Ronnie Kahn from Oz Harvest. We also have regular speakers from Exodus Foundation and Youth Ambassadors from World Vision.
There are regular lunchtime meetings at which the girls themselves speak on topics of current interest. The Social Justice Committee also organises petitions for the whole Senior School on topics such as the Arms Trade Treaty and the right to vote for women in Egypt. Year 11 students participate in World Vision's 40 Hour Famine. Students also attend functions outside of the school such as International Women’s Day, World Vision Global Leadership Conferences and Refugee Days.
