The school has a strong team to care for the health of our girls. With a full time nurse and two residential nurses, we provide 24 hour care, seven days a week.
The purpose of the Health Centre is to provide a professional health service to the school community with the aim of minimising health related obstacles that can impede learning, individual development and personal wellbeing. Located in Holmwood House, one of the four boarding houses, the Health Centre is easily accessed by all students.
The School Nurse provides:
- Primary health care and first aid to students and staff
- Promotion and assistance in health education
- Medical and dental appointments for boarders
- Referrals to allied health professionals
- Pastoral care and referrals to our School Counsellors
- Flu Vaccinations for staff and boarders in Term One
Parents of girls with special needs are expected to contact the school nurse to discuss any concerns. A plan of care will be implemented in consultation with the parents, health professionals, relevant teaching staff and the student.
Medical Consent and Procedure
Medical records are maintained for each student during her years at Ascham. The Student Medical Form is distributed to parents annually. These forms must be completed and returned by all new and returning students, so that current treatments, medical conditions, consents and any changes can be updated.
Each year the NSW Health Department offer vaccination programs at the school for girls in Years 7 and 10 as part of the continuing Adolescent School-based Vaccination Program.
